Default engine ported

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but have done some searching on rx8club.com. My question to everyone is if any of you guys ever had your Rx8 engine ported?

Welcome to the forum! While I do not own an Rx8, I know a few things about porting. What would you like to know?

i know with the Rx7 that a lot of people have been bridge porting their engines, but never heard anyone porting the renesis engine. didn't know if there is any risk involved with it.

Hi Rotarydisciple,

Yes there is risk involved in doing even a street port. The risk comes from the way the end housings are cast with respect to the intake and exhaust ports. On the older engines, there's a lot more iron "meat" at the opening edges of the intake ports (closest to the inner water jacket o-ring lands). On the Renesis end housings, however, there isn't a whole lot. The more traditional style of porting that's done on the older motors can't be applicable on the Renesis because that style seems to be a "bigger is better" sort of approach where iron can be and is cut out of that opening edge. Same goes for the top closing edges. The way the engine is constructed it doesn't leave gobs of room for stuff. There's also the issue of the close water jacketting. Cut away too much on the opening edge of the exhaust port and it'll pierce that jacketting.

I've not done a lot on the Renesis but I do know that it requires a considerably more conservative approach.

Base mods: Exhaust, Intake, that sort of stuff, not to mention removing the factory coils and going to a better set.
